The electoral success of social media losers: a study on the usage and influence of Twitter in times of elections in Paraguay

Abstract In recent years, social media has become increasingly relevant in democratic decision-making processes, such as referendums or elections. Recent investigations have raised the concern of misuse attempts to manipulate public opinion and influence results, undermining foundations democracy. By analyzing use Twitter during 2017/2018 presidential elections Paraguay, this study provides empirical evidence analysis about role on political campaigns. a departure from other countries region, dominance network did not correlate with results. The results we highlight article, therefore, challenge impact elections, offering an interesting view their Latin America countries, like Paraguay.
